1890 FarmHouse
Sonoma, CA

This farmhouse in Sonoma was badly damaged in a 2014 earthquake. It required extensive repair and remodeling. We rebuilt and upgraded two of the walls to match the style of the original home. We also built a bay window area to help support and x-brace the south wall to carry the load of the balcony, deck, and roof. We steamed the new ship-lap siding to match the old-style curve around the bay window.

Interestingly, this home had curved windows brought up from the salvage of a San Francisco 1906 earthquake home. The curved windows on the first floor all broke except for one. We built a custom frame for it and installed it in the middle of another casement window. We used a steel I beam to accept the antique spider window for close attachment of the lower casement windows. The owner has a safer and more energy efficient structure as part of their beautifully situated 19th century farmhouse.
